MZANSI's POTENTIAL ON HOSTING INTERNATIONAL EVENTS

Source: www.timeslive.co.za

South Africa is known for hosting and organising local events that attracts crowds from all walks of life. As Mzansi is developing in hosting local events, it is also improving in hosting big and international events. With no doubt as a public relations practitioner someday you will find yourself having to organise an international event. We must keep in mind that to host an event is another story and to host a succesful event is another story. Based on our past events, does SA has what it takes to organise big and major events?

Mzansi has hosted big international events that were successful, but just to be specific we will focus on the upcoming Rihanna World Tour event that will take place on the 13th October 2013 at FNB Stadium JHB and 16th October 2013 at Cape Town Stadium CPT. On Monday 19th August 2013 the #1 Facebook diva confirmed with Big Concerts that she will be performing in SA two big cities which are Cape Town and Johannesburg. The queen of "Diamonds" will be performing for the second time in the South African soil, she performed back in 2006 as an opening act on famous rapper Jay-Z event. The tickets for the event can be purchased at computicket and www.bigconcerts.co.za at prices from R330 to R930 for Johannesburg and R275 to R820 for Cape Town.

As a reader of this blog before sharing your thoughts about South Africa's potential on hosting international events. For sure your question might be; what is it that makes event organisers choose to host events on SA? According to researched information by the Exhibition and Events Association of Southern Africa has listed reasons for hosting events in South Africa. The main reason is the cost effectiveness, English is spoken across SA, SA summer is during the northern hemisphere, and SA offers infrastructure of top-of-range equipment, internet, connectivity, cellphone coverage, roads and airlines. For more information visit www.theevent.co.za

Before the queen of pop hits the shores of South Africa, do you think South Africa has what it takes to host this event and make a success of it? In your own words when it comes to hosting international events, do you think South Africa has done enough, or it needs to work on the equipments, resources, equipments, sound systems and transportation?

  11. South is so good at hosting events that involve celebrities that they tend to forget that they pay these celebrities so much jst for a pop in at the event whereas at the end of the day our people are still starving. I fail to understand why cant they use our local people so they can be promoted instead of us using people to benefit their own country

  12. Well my opinion : as international currency mainly the U$ dollar is higher than ours the need to come to our shores is high, but the demand that the artists ask for is higher than what organisers can afford, which makes it uneasy for majority of the public to attend such events as the price for the tickets is quiet expensive.

  13. @ lerato as to how I view the entertainment crew in South Africa is to reach the international standards, however @ thato our country needs to improve internally before going externally

    ReplyDelete
  14. @Sabelo what is it thay you can improve?

@Lerato ok you agree Mzansi does organise good events, but we must make sure the international events benefit our local people? Nice one

  15. @cassandra so you vote against SA hosting international events?

@Kgothatso please elaborate to what are the internal and external factors you talking about.

  16. Mzansi as it is well know that it is an semi-developed or a developing country and it is the United state of Africa.Let us bare in mind that most international artist, musicians, etc they are from countries that are developed.internally we should 1st support our home grown artists because everything starts @ home, when our support system internally is solid it wil give our local stars spot lights to also be a global brand, the publication of our stars is limited yet the external artists are everywhere on our televisions, radios, newspapers etc,Let's sar @ home before we can go out to the world

  17. I think South Africa has attracted a large international audience lately because of the huge success of the hosting of the world's top three sports events, footbal, rugby and cricket, just to put it into perspective, it's a case of "been there, done that" and we have the experience of hosting and accomodating this huge stars, but we can improve alot, especially in the department advertising and ticketing, an average fellow can afford this exorbitant fee, it's to much for some!!!

  18. Ok Kgothatso I get your arguement. You simply saying before when we host international events is the same as strengthening the international artists and music. Again we must strengthen our local artists so they can also be internationaly recognised?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Ok George I get your point sir. So you do agree that SA has the potential and abilities of hosting big and international events. So we must work on advertising and ticketing. Dont you thing if the price of ticketing can be decreased that will hav a bad impact on hosting international events? As you know international artists like Rihanna they don't to perform for peanuts

  20. @thato No, I don't vote against SA hosting international events. As for the tourism, infrastructure, connectivity, the arts and culture they attract more people from outer countries and it sustains SA's ability and capability to host more international events. Events such as the 2010 FIFA World Cup did a good job at doing so, since then it has been quite manageable for SA to serve more to the world on a silver platter. Yet it is still a process as a developing country. Yet more still needs to be done first on local events, so that much can be done for international ones.

  21. Yes mr masuku, and let's not forget that our standard with most recognised international artist are a bit expensive than our own,we stil need a lot of work, plans, activities, funds and time to reach the potential we ought to reach

    ReplyDelete
  22. And what I have noticed and acknoledged is that we as south africans are killing our own artist

    ReplyDelete
  23. @Cassandra I get your point mam. So we need to put more effort to host international events?

@Kgothatso ok so you want us to invest on local artists and events first?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Thato time is not on out side but let just do things dat wil give us a gud reputation as event co-ordinators

    ReplyDelete
  25. Don't you think everyone should be able to attend this events, i hear you, but are we not from around hear, and what makes it so special that we have to pay these high prices for those celebrities, for myself i prefare something that unites people, not people who think they are so important that people must pay exorbitant prices for them, they what is the purpose of touring, are you not attending your fans and thanking them for support

    ReplyDelete
  26. Charmaine ok point taken that we should focus on the reputation of our South African co-ordinates

    ReplyDelete
  27. Ok George so for South African to be in the international stage ,we must firstly focus on the local people and make them happy first

    ReplyDelete
  28. Yes, when people see the support of this people, they can organise more events and make more revenue

    ReplyDelete
  29. @Kgothatso good point there,@ thato I have to agree to the question meant for kgothatso, yes we need to invest locally 1st before investing more internationally. And again we don't necessarily need to put more effort to please people from other countries whereas we can't please our own country.
